" A Lax-type framework for fluid models "
Abstract: In this talk, we present recent advances of Lax-type convergence theorems for numerical approximations of fluid flows. The guiding principle is a nonlinear counterpart of the classical implication “stability + consistency ⇒ convergence”, where stability includes discrete energy/entropy control and positivity preservation of thermodynamic variables—properties typically embedded in structure-preserving numerical schemes.
We will discuss applications of this framework to the compressible Navier–Stokes equations, the incompressible Euler equations, and related fluid models. In particular, we address three prototypical scenarios:
(i) convergence to dissipative solutions when classical solutions are not available;
(ii) convergence to the classical solution on the time interval where it exists;
(iii) convergence rates with respect to a smooth solution.
Bereits ab 16:30 Uhr gibt es für alle Interessierten die Möglichkeit zu einem Gespräch bei Kaffee und Tee im Bibliothekszimmer (R110).
