Invitation to the Mathematical Colloquium
Wednesday, December 04, 2024, conference room (R107), 5 p.m. s.t.
Prof. Dr. Rémi Abgrall, Institute of Mathematics & Computational Science University of Zurich
will talk about the topic: "About the numerical approximation of nonlinear hyperbolic problems: from its history to some modern perspectives"
Abstract: In this talk, after having recalled the notion of hyperbolic problem and its formal link with stability, I will give a historical perspective on the discretization of these problems, with examples. The main example being the system of Euler equations, I will then focus on problems in aerodynamics because they have been the main driver of research in the open literature. I will finish by describing the state of current research.
Starting at 16:30, there will be an opportunity for all interested parties to talk over coffee and tea in the meeting room (R206).
