Invitation to the Mathematical Colloquium

Prof. Dr. Daniel Grieser, Institute of Mathematics, Carl von Ossietzky University Oldenburg will speak on the topic: "Mathematical Problem Solving and Proving: Discovery-based learning in the introductory phase of studies"
Abstract:
Anyone who studies mathematics should have the experience: I can discover mathematics for myself.
This is the guiding principle of the module Mathematical Problem Solving and Proving, which has been integrated into the curriculum of the mathematics degree programs at the University of Oldenburg since the winter semester 2011/12.
This presentation is intended to show that this module enriches the mathematics degree program with a valuable aspect and at the same time facilitates the entry into the degree program. After basic considerations on the initial situation and the development of the module, examples from the implementation and reports on the structure and experiences with the module will be given.
There will be an opportunity for all interested parties to talk over coffee and tea in the meeting room (R206) from 16:45.
