Abi 2012 and "The mathematical view"

The 2012 Zentralabitur goes beyond the requirements of previous years in the area of analysis, particularly with the topics "Limited and logistic growth" and "Differential equations without solution methods". One half of the training course is dedicated to these topics.

In the other part, "The mathematical view", Prof. Dr. W. Herget states: "Maths is about calculation!" - Yes, but not only and not always!

Prof. Herget wants to show that an attentive look at the "rest of the world" can be a real mathematical treasure trove - for a critical and constructive examination of representations, ideas, arguments, numbers and figures. The examples presented motivate and encourage critical thinking, carry the mathematics within them and thus form an attractive and lively bridge between mathematics and "the rest of the world": Mathematics happens!

Typically, the focus is not just on the arithmetic, but rather on the steps before and after the arithmetic: "Here is a situation. Think about it!" (Henry Pollak). This can also be used to strengthen basic ideas about important mathematical concepts and procedures, to practice procedures and to develop the feeling "I can do math!" step by step.
