Mathematics preliminary course winter semester 2025/26

Winter semester preliminary course

The aim of this course is to provide the mathematical foundations required for the lectures in the first semester. We recommend that all students take part in the preliminary course, as it is an important prerequisite for academic success and, according to many years of research, does not bring all students to the same level, but on average results in performance gains for all participants. At the same time, the preliminary course provides an initial insight into how teaching in mathematics-related WiMINT subjects is structured and thus plays a very important role in successfully starting a degree course. The course also presents how performance in mathematics-related subjects can be positively and negatively influenced (at a high level of significance) and how the support offered by the Institute of Mathematics can be used for this purpose.

You should therefore take the opportunity to refresh and deepen your previous school knowledge in this lecture and the associated exercises. In this way, the preliminary course will make it easier for you to start your studies and successfully participate in the lectures and exercises. It will help you to better understand the mathematical concepts that you will be dealing with at the beginning of your studies; and it will also refresh the basics of procedures in applications based on mathematics from secondary school, so that you will start your studies mathematically well equipped.

Date

The preliminary course will take place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays in the three weeks before the start of the WS 2025/26 lecture period.

October 6, October 8, October 10, October 13, October 15, October 17, October 20, October 22, October 24

The course runs from 9 am to 12 noon and 1 pm to 4 pm. On the first day, there will be a welcome session from 10 am to 12 noon. The preliminary course will start immediately afterwards, so that the end of the preliminary course events on this day will be delayed until late afternoon.

Registration: For better planning and for sending more detailed information later, please send an e-mail to ifm-vorkurs@tu-clausthal.de stating your course of study.
