Microbial methanation (new announcement)

The research group "Scientific Computing" of the Institute of Mathematics (IfM) has a vacancy for a

Scientific Assistant (m/f/d) TV-L E13 (100%)

for a period of 3 years as soon as possible.

The position is part of the joint project "Catalytic and microbial methanation as basis for sustainable energy storage". The aim of the subproject "Multi scale simulation of microbial methanation in porous media" is to develop a hierarchy of models that allow the high resolution simulation of microbial methanation on the pore scale (microbial turnover and growth) and sample scale (transport of carbon dioxide, hydrogen and products). Existing programs can be used as a basis for this. The models will be applied to measured data from the project partners. This requires close collaboration with our partners at the Institute of Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering and the Institute of Chemical and Electrochemical Engineering.

We offer an exciting challenge in a dynamic, internationally oriented research field with a high degree of personal responsibility. You can expect flexible working conditions as well as attractive qualification offers.

There is the possibility of a doctorate.

The call is addressed to mathematicians, physicists, computer scientists, geoscientists or graduates of comparable courses of study with an interest in scientific high-performance computing and the modeling and numerical simulation of transport processes in porous media.

Applicants must have very good programming skills in C++ and good basic knowledge in the numerics of partial differential equations. A strong ability to work in a team and a willingness to work in an interdisciplinary manner are required, as well as a willingness to participate in teaching.

Equality with its facets of equal opportunities, diversity and family friendliness is an important concern for the TU Clausthal. People with disabilities are given priority in the case of equal suitability.

Applications from people of all nationalities are welcome.

For specific information on the research topic, please contact the head of the research group, Prof. Dr. Olaf Ippisch (olaf.ippisch@tu-clausthal.de). Please send your application including CV, references, a description of major fields of study and interest, and your previous experience in the field of modeling and simulation as a single PDF file (max. 10 MB) to olaf.ippisch@tu-clausthal.de by December 13, 2019.

Application fees cannot be reimbursed. Your submitted application documents will be destroyed after completion of the selection process in compliance with legal requirements.
