Research group Stochastic Optimization

Pareto optimization using ant colony algorithms

The research group Stochastic Optimization works on modeling, simulation and optimization of complex practical problems in the field of business and technology. Current priorities are:

  • Analysis and refinement of nature-inspired stochastic optimization methods, especially in connection with simulated cost functions.
  • Optimization and simulation of transport systems, in particular of  airport runways and railway networks.
  • Simulation and optimization of particle packings in material science.

In teaching, we offer lectures in stochastics, stochastic simulation, stochastic processes and basic statistics  in the Bachelor and Master degree courses of the faculty. We are also engaged in the basic mathematics courses for other faculties, like  (engineering) Statistics, Mathematics for Business Studies and Chemistry  and Stochastic Modelling and Simulation.
